CoEBio3 Funded Studentship: Enzymatic routes to generic building blocks leading to chiral tertiary alcohols; Dr. Tim Snape and Professor Nick Turner.

Applications are requested for a CoEBio3-funded Ph.D. studentship within the biocatalysis group of the School of Chemistry/MIB led by Dr. Tim Snape and Professor Nick Turner. The aim of the project is to develop a general route to enantiomerically pure tertiary alcohols which constitute an important class of compound and are found in numerous natural products and pharmaceuticals. Due to the lack of a general route to enantiomerically pure tertiary alcohols currently available, the development of a more indirect approach to them would prove extremely useful. This project would suit a student with a strong (2.1 or first class) degree in chemistry with an interest in biocatalysis.
