National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (NIBF) and Centre for Process Innovation (CPI)

The pilot manufacturing and process development services will be located in the National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (NIBF) that is an industrially focused service within the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) at Wilton. It comprises a development laboratory and pilot-plant capabilities.

Owned and operated by CPI the NIBF is available for producing microbial proteins and enzymes and cells for biocatalysis and for biotransformations at pilot scale. Downstream chemical processing will allow recovery of low molecular weight metabolites and polymers (e.g. DNA) for non-clinical use. The facility will be developed and expanded in response to the demand of its customers.

The biotechnology facility will provide a "rapid-response" team focusing on the scale-up of enzyme preparations and/or biotransformations to make product at the kilo level.
